I got to Starbucks a little earlier than usual that morning (which almost never happens, btw), mostly because I wanted enough time to actually enjoy my coffee before school. I ordered a hot Venti Caffè Mocha (I usually go for a Venti Frappuccino, but I felt like switching it up... obviously), grabbed it, and headed outside.
The first sip was actually pretty good... but after a minute I realized something was off. I could barely taste the coffee. It honestly tasted more like hot chocolate than a mocha (not complaining... just saying). The barista mentioned it came with two espresso shots, and for a second I almost asked for an extra one. I didn't... and yeah, I kind of regretted it.
It also wasn't as hot as I expected. Not cold or anything, but definitely not the "careful, you'll burn your tongue" kind of hot. It almost felt like the milk hadn't been steamed enough (or maybe that was just me). Either way, it made it way too easy to keep taking another sip.
The whole plan was to make it to school with my Starbucks still in my hand. I don't really know why (maybe it's just me), but walking into school holding a Starbucks cup just feels right. Like I actually have my life together for five minutes. Yeah... that didn't happen.
One sip turned into another (and another), and before I even realized it, the cup was basically empty. Seriously? I wasn't even halfway to school yet.
By the time I got there, all I had left was an empty cup, the Starbucks logo, and that chocolate-and-espresso smell that somehow sticks around forever. Downtown Seattle was just starting to wake up—people heading to work, buses rolling by, coffee shops filling up—and somehow my coffee was already gone.
Maybe next time I'll actually make it to school with a full Starbucks in my hand.
...Yeah, probably not.
(I guess we'll see.)
